My Background

Born in the region, which is well-known for gems, the artist, Chaminda Witharama was unveiled to the first light of life in a rural village called “Kolonna” situated in Ratnapura District, Sabaragamuwa Province, Sri Lanka. Inspiration for painting was all around the atmosphere in his village from dynamic waterfalls to humungous trees to whistling birds. The world renowned “Sinharaja Rain Forest” was in few minutes reach for him.

Growing up in a natural environment, associating the greenery, and living in the mystifying landscapes he received his basic education from Kolonna National School. Painting became his passion since he commenced drawing sketches on the sandy valleys during his free time. By recognizing his gift in painting, he was guided to travel the paths of art and painting. As a result he was graduated from the Visual and Performance Art University in Colombo.

Bidding adieu to his mystifying village and getting constrained in the land of buildings never stopped his passion, his dream or his life. Recollecting the past memories and making them enliven through his skills, Chaminda created oil paintings on enchanted landscapes, animals and striking flowers. The journeys he took to explore the building forest were resulted in his paintings as he found an additional side for his craving in painting old structures and buildings.

The greatest artists never stopped dreaming or inspiring. That is when the fate draws the hallways of life of this greatest artist into teaching. By being a role model, live inspiration ChamindaWitharama continues to live, to dream and to see through his paintings.
